Racist yob jailed for revenge attack on Carlisle takeaway

A man who took revenge on a kebab shop after his girlfriend was jailed for being part of a racist mob which launched a drunken attack on it has himself now been sent to prison.

Gavin Mossop, 27, spent one night in prison for contempt of court after shouting at the judge as he jailed the 11 racists in February. And he was back at the city’s Crown Court yesterday for his own drunken racist attack on the takeaway in Carlisle.

Mossop, who lives with his mother in Highmoor Park, Wigton, was jailed for nine months after pleading guilty to charges of taking revenge and racially aggravated public disorder.

Germany refocuses on neo-Nazi threat

Until the discovery last year that a string of unsolved killings had been perpetrated by neo-Nazis, few in Germany considered far-right extremism a major threat.

After the Sept. 11 attacks in the United States, security agencies around the world poured energy into fighting Islamist terrorism, and Germany did so with special urgency because several of the hijackers had lived in Hamburg. But the shift led to the neglect of other types of homegrown violence in this nation of 82 million people, critics now say, allowing a neo-Nazi movement to flourish.

French MP warns against Islamisation of Europe

Libération interviews Lionnel Luca, a member of the right-wing anti-migrant parliamentary group Droite populaire.

Luca states that the continent of Europe is on the way towards demographic extinction as a result of immigration and he poses the question: “in 2050 or 2010 will Europe still be a democracy with the values of secularism, of respect for women’s rights?” He asserts: “For twenty years a fundamentalist conquering Islamism has tried to impose its way of life on us.” And although “France is resisting, with the ban on the headscarf in schools, on the veil”, other countries are unfortunately less vigorous in their defence of European civilisation.

Asked if this isn’t a catastrophist vision, Luca goes on to claim that two-thirds of the meat in France is ritually slaughtered (an editorial comment notes that the official figure is 14%) and says that he objects to “paying a tax for a religion that is not mine”. He concludes: “The word ‘Islamisation’ seems too strong to you? I am inclined to say to you: let’s talk about this in twenty years when you will be wearing a veil.”

We Are Waltham Forest to hold two events in Walthamstow town square to counteract EDL march

Campaigners are due to hold two events to protest against a march organised by the English Defence League (EDL).

The far right extremist group was due to hold a demonstration in Walthamstow on Saturday, August 18, but has now postponed it until Saturday, September 1.

Umbrella campaign group We Are Waltham Forest has reacted by opting to hold two demonstrations in Walthamstow town square on both dates.

A spokesman for the group said: “We have to ensure both dates are well covered, so we need people to be understanding and to turn up in large numbers to show the EDL that we don’t want them or their politics in our borough.”

Both its town square demos will begin from 11am.

Settler teen arrested for West Bank mosque arson

Judea and Samaria district police on Sunday arrested a 17-year-old settler they suspect took part in the “price tag” arson attack on a mosque in Jab’a, south of Ramallah, on June 19.

The boy was arrested at Lake Kinneret (the Sea of Galilee) where he was vacationing with his family.

Police detained two other youths last month in connection to the crime. Both were released due to insufficient evidence.

The arsonists at the Jab’a mosque spray-painted the words “Ulpana War” on a wall of the mosque, a reference to the contested outpost next to Beit El. The reference to Beit El led police to view the incident as a price-tag attack, the name given to acts of violence or vandalism committed to protest Israeli government actions against settlements.

Bedfordshire Police refuse to take action over BNP leaflet that incites hatred against Muslims

Linda Jack with BNP leaflet

A former MP candidate has said that she is shocked that no action is being taken against a British National Party leaflet that she believes is “racist”.

Linda Jack, of Furze Close, Luton, said she was disgusted when the leaflet came through the door early last Sunday morning, and branded its literature “nasty” and “offensive”.

Under the title “Racist Muslim Paedophilia”, the content read: “The facts of the matter are that the “Pedostani” gangs could not have got away with their sick and evil crimes for so long had the establishment not turned a blind eye.”

Shots fired at Illinois mosque

Muslim Education CenterMembers of a suburban mosque say someone took several shots with an air rifle last night at the building’s outer wall in Morton Grove.

According to the Council on American-Islamic Relations, two air rifle shots were fired at the outer brick wall of the Muslim Education Center mosque, 8613 Menard Ave., damaging it.

A guard was working security at the center, where services were underway for Ramadan, when he heard a projectile hit the outside wall of the building at 9:20 p.m., said Morton Grove police Chief Mark Erickson.

No one was hurt and no one inside the center was near a window when the pellet-gun shooting happened, said the chief. “He was walking around outside and he heard this bang and he notified the police,” Erickson said of the guard.
