A Christmas message from ‘Tommy’

The English Defence League has posted the latest message from its imprisoned leader Stephen Lennon, wishing his organisation’s now severely depleted troops a happy Christmas.

As you might expect, the letter consists mostly of an extended whinge about his personal predicament. However, “Tommy” does take the opportunity to offer us the benefit of his latest thinking on the origins and aims of Islam.

Bachmann claims Obama administration has embraced plan to bring Islamic law to U.S.

U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann says President Barack Obama’s administration has embraced what she calls a bid by Islamic fundamentalists to bring the U.S. government in line with Islamic law.

Bachmann, R-Stillwater, made the comments last weekend in an interview with Jan Markell, a Maple Grove-based Christian minister with Olive Tree Ministries.

Man charged over pig’s head at Newbury mosque

A 21-year-old man has been charged with racially aggravated harassment after a pig’s head was discovered outside a mosque, police have said.

The incident happened outside the Muslim place of worship in Pound Street, Newbury, Berkshire, on October 23, Thames Valley Police said.

A man, who police have not named, has been charged with racially aggravated harassment and a Section 4 public order offence. He has been bailed to appear at Reading Magistrates’ Court on December 19.

France asks European Parliament to lift Le Pen immunity

Marine Le Pen (5)French authorities have asked the European Parliament to lift the immunity of far-right leader Marine Le Pen so she can be prosecuted for comparing Islamic prayers to the Nazi occupation, officials said Monday.

Justice ministry spokesman Pierre Rance told AFP the request was sent to European Parliament President Martin Schulz late last month. A source close to the matter said the request was related to an ongoing judicial probe into remarks made by Le Pen in a speech to supporters of her Front National party in December 2010.

EDL’s planned march in Slough condemned

Far-right group the English Defence League (EDL) is planning a demonstration in Slough early in the New Year. A website, aiming to expose and counter the EDL, says the group is planning four marches – in Slough, Cambridge, Manchester and Newcastle. The anonymous website founder claims the information was leaked to him by an EDL member.
