Man called for Muslim murders on Facebook

A man used Facebook to urge friends to murder Muslims on the day Drummer Lee Rigby was killed in Woolwich.

Paul Fisher, 28, today admitted that his racist message was “intended to incite others to carry out serious violence and kill others”. Fisher, from Livingston, pleaded guilty on indictment to conducting himself in a disorderly manner and committing a breach of the peace by his abuse of the social media website on May 22.

The Crown will reveal details of the offensive messages Fisher posted when he returns to Livingston Sheriff Court for sentence in three weeks’ time. Sheriff Graeme Fleming QC called for criminal justice social work reports and an assessment of Fisher’s suitability for home curfew and unpaid work before adjourning the case.

Jews stand in solidarity with Muslims against fascist SDL

Edinburgh’s Jews will not stand by while fascists threaten their Muslim neighbours, a leading figure in the capital’s faith community said today. Sukkat Shalom chairman Norman Crane offered words of support today after the city’s council said it would let the far-right Scottish Defence League march down the Royal Mile next month.

The SDL, known for taunting nazi salutes and racist attacks, plans a provocative march through the heart of the international Fringe Festival on August 17 – and councillors have approved the demonstration, saying police had reported “no significant public order issues” in recent years. Mr Crane said he could not understand why the march had been allowed – “freedom of speech, I suppose.” But he had attended an emergency meeting with anti-racist activists on Monday evening and would “strongly support” any counter-demonstration.

Bad day for the SDL in Pollokshields

The Scottish Defence League’s (SDL) threats to march on multi-cultural Pollokshields, Glasgow, proved pathetic on Saturday as over 300 anti-fascists outnumbered the racists ten-to-one. The EDL didn’t turn up to support their pals north of the border and the SDL were promptly marched to the police station.

The anti-fascist, counter-demonstration was as diverse as Pollockshields itself. Numerous speakers from the trade union movement, faith groups, community organisations, and politicians stated that the SDL were not welcome in any community in Scotland. Speakers, including Humza Yousaf, MSP, as well as Glasgow Central MP and deputy leader of the Scottish Labour Party, Anas Sarwar, stressed the need to stand against the SDL when they did appear.

The SDL is now threatening to march in Edinburgh on Saturday 17 August (during the Edinburgh Festival). The local council has announced it does not intend to ban them and anti-fascists in Scotland are planning to build on the successes of Pollokshields in organising a counter-demonstration on the day.

Anti-Muslim violence: A wakeup call for European governments

Marwan Muhammad, Elsa Rayand and Michaël Privot argue that “governments urgently need to take action against Islamophobic violence”. They argue:

“There is a tendency to view hostility and violence towards Muslims as normal and acceptable. Prejudice against Muslims does not always carry the same social stigma as prejudice against other ethnic and religious groups.”

A first step would be to “officially recognise Islamophobia as a specific form of racism”.

New Zealand cab driver subjected to rant by anti-Muslim racist

Tariq HumayunPolice are continuing to investigate an incident where a Kiwi man subjected a Pakistan-born taxi driver to a torrent of racial abuse.

Tariq Humayun, a taxi driver for Invercargill Taxis, captured the exchange on his iPhone and it has since gone viral. The taxi passenger has been identified as Gregory Shuttleworth, who is believed to be aged in his mid-40s.

In the recording, Mr Humayun is polite and appears to remain calm throughout the racist tirade which began after he picked up the Southland technician just after midnight on Friday. Mr Shuttleworth describes Mr Humayun as an “Islam prick” during the exchange, and demands to have another taxi. “I’ll pay you your $7 when you tell me that you’ll piss off back to the country where you come from,” he said.

Mr Humayan says he does not want to argue with Mr Shuttleworth and will leave. “You shouldn’t be in New Zealand in the first place … we don’t require your Muslim bulls*** in this country,” Mr Shuttleworth can be heard saying.

Crayola crayons succumb to creeping Sharia

Crayola Creeping Sharia

Anti-Shariah activists have a new target in their sights: Crayola. Late last week the Pickens County (Ga.) Republican party posted a call to action on its website about a new promotion from the world’s leading crayon manufacturer, which had begun offering free Islamic-themed coloring pages in honor of Ramadan. Zut alors! The images are pretty innocuous — one features a prayer rug; another features a young boy kneeling while reading from the Koran. But the Pickens GOP sees something more nefarious:

Recall that Muslims consider Ramadan the “month of jihad” and “month of victory” over infidels. Crayola should remind kids not to try and draw Muhammad lest their parents need to fend off Muslims and enter witness relocation – like the creator of Everyone Draw Muhammad Day – since the FBI nor anyone else will protect them.

Christmas trees and bunnies abound but a search for the Bible returned zero results.

Both the Pickens County GOP and another anti-Shariah website, the appropriately named “Creeping Sharia,” both published the exact same text on the exact same day, so it’s not clear who plagiarized whom. Crayola is in good company. Other American institutions that have fallen under the spell of Shariah (according to anti-Shariah activists) include David Petraeus, the grocery store Wegman’s, and Nashville’s Hutton Hotel.

One Nation defends anti-halal stance, denies racism

The One Nation Party has invited opponents and supporters to have their questions about the party answered, when Pauline Hanson speaks on the Sunshine Coast next week.

Jim Savage, the party’s lead Senate candidate for Queensland, said the party had been wrongly labelled racists by Member for Noosa Glen Elmes and Greens candidate for Fairfax David Knobel. The issue arose after One Nation’s Fairfax candidate Mike Holt was last week linked to stickers claiming halal food certification funded terrorism. “I do not accept that 98% of non-Muslim Australians should pay a tax on the food they buy and goes to organisations like the Queensland Islamic Council,” Mr Savage said.

Mr Elmes, the Queensland Multicultural Affairs Minister, compared One Nation’s views to “the White Australia Policy”, which “was discredited” decades ago. “Queensland is home to 37,000 people of the Muslim faith and they should be free to practise their religious and cultural beliefs without attack from idiots like the One Nation candidate for Fairfax,” Mr Elmes said.

Meantime, the Greens said Mr Holt’s “campaign strategy” was designed to “incite unrestrained racial and religious hatred”. “The Greens condemn this behaviour and call on One Nation to take a strong stand against this unwelcome and offensive affront to Australian values of tolerance and freedom,” Mr Knobel said.
