British Freedom party appoints racist as South West regional organiser

Chelsea Anne WhiteEarlier this week the English Defence League’s political wing, the British Freedom party, announced the appointment of their new South West regional organiser. She’s an EDL activist from Bristol named Chelsea Anne White.

White’s explanation of her decision to join British Freedom features the usual anti-Muslim rhetoric – “mosques, we don’t want them and we don’t want burka-clad women on our beaches…. We don’t want animals sent for halal slaughter”.

Fascist sees Breivik as an inspiration and role model

A kickboxing champ has said an Anders Breivik-style attack could happen in the UK.

Darren Clifft, who is pictured on Facebook doing a Hitler salute while dressed in a Ku Klux Klan hood, said far-right nuts had been inspired by the Norwegian who killed 77 people in Oslo and on the island of Utøya. And the jobless racist, 22, said he would applaud anyone who carried out such an attack.

Waltham Forest Guardian and council launch joint campaign to ban English Defence League march

Waltham Forest Guardian EDL campaign

Today your Guardian teams up with Waltham Forest Council to stop the English Defence League (EDL) peddling its hatred and prejudice in our borough for the second time in two months.

Our joint campaign “Waltham Forest – United. Strong. Together.” calls on the government to step in and ban the EDL from going ahead with its planned march through Walthamstow on October 27.

The move follows hot on the heels of the EDL’s last parade through the town on September 1, when its route was blocked by opponents who outnumbered the marchers by 10 to one.

Woman’s racist rant at neighbours sees court impose two-year restraining order

A woman with a history of racist behaviour has been ordered to stay away from her Lebanese neighbours.

North Devon Magistrates’ Court heard Angela Janet French, 58, of 14 Barlow Road in Barnstaple, unleashed an hour-long torrent of drunken racist abuse in her back garden less than a week after being warned by magistrates to leave her neighbours alone.

Hereford: police investigate racist comments about Muslim community centre

Police are investigating racist comments made over the internet in response to plans for a Muslim place of worship in Hereford. Comments were made via social networking sites after plans for a community centre for Muslims were revealed.

One comment posted on the Hereford Masjid Fundraising Campaign’s Facebook page, which has since shut down, threatened to contaminate any land identified as a potential site and referred to the group as vermin.

Police fail to bring charges against far-right activists

Five men arrested in dawn raids by counter-terrorism officers on suspicion of posting race hate material will not face any charges, The Northern Echo can reveal.

The suspects – including two men from the North-East – were detained in April when dozens of plain-clothed and uniformed officers swooped on several addresses across the UK. Computers, laptops and mobile phones were seized during the operation.

But last night, the North-East Counter Terrorism Unit revealed that, following discussions with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), it had been decided no charges would be brought.

British Social Attitudes Survey reveals negative views of Muslim migrants

BSA Survey 2012ENGAGE has a useful summary of the latest British Social Attitudes Survey and what it reveals about popular views on migration in general and Muslim migrants in particular.

Overall opinion of the settlement of migrants is negative, with only 24% of respondents holding a positive view and 60% rating the impact negatively. 75% of respondents advocated a reduction in immigration and 51% a large reduction.

The public are significantly more concerned now than they were a decade ago about the economic impact of migration, but there has been an even bigger growth in opposition to the cultural impact. Those who view the cultural impact of immigration as “very bad” have increased from 9% in 2002 to 21% in 2011.

EDL supporter in court over vile racist tweets

A man accused of using Twitter to send racially and religiously offensive messages will appear at crown court on October 29.

Ricky Davies, 20, of St Leger Crescent, Swansea, faces two charges of causing religiously aggravated harassment, another two of racially aggravated harassment and a charge of sending an indecent message.
