EDL leader and Bedfordshire Police Commissioner candidate says all Muslims are backward savages
EDL News draws our attention to a recent Facebook comment by Kevin Carroll, who is now leading the English Defence League during the enforced absence of his cousin Stephen Lennon, and is also standing as the British Freedom party candidate for Police and Crime Commissioner in Bedfordshire.
The official EDL line is that they are opposed to Islam as a barbaric 7th-century ideology, but have nothing against its followers. In reality, of course, the EDL is a movement of far-right racists who just hate Muslims, as the vile comments that its rank-and-file supporters post on Facebook demonstrate every day. And, as Carroll shows here, even the EDL leaders sometimes allow their mask to slip.
Survey exposes hostility towards Islam in France
The role of Islam in France was once again under the spotlight on Thursday after right-wing daily Le Figaro published the results of an opinion poll that suggested 43 percent of French people believe the religion is a “threat” to national identity.
Six out of ten French people believe the influence of Islam in France is “too big” and 43 percent see the religion as a “threat” to national identity, according to the results of an opinion poll published on Thursday.
The sensitive poll, which will likely cause ripples in a country home to Europe’s largest Muslim population, was carried out by Ifop polling institute for Le Figaro, which published the results under the headline “The image of Islam worsens in France“.
London EDL marches stopped by government ban
A series of marches by the English Defence League has been banned amid fears of serious public disorder.
Policing minister Damian Green agreed to a police request for the ban ahead of marches on Saturday in Walthamstow and elsewhere in north-east London.
The ban prevents all marches in Waltham Forest and nearby boroughs Islington, Tower Hamlets and Newham for 30 days.
The Metropolitan Police wrote to Home Secretary Theresa May asking for the ban two days ago.
Halal hysteria hits Hartlepool
A town primary school sparked outrage after announcing plans to serve halal meat in meals to all pupils. But within hours it made a dramatic u-turn and sent a text message to parents telling them the decision had been reversed.
Police seek to ban EDL march in Islington amid fears Finsbury Park Mosque could be ‘target for disorder’
Police are seeking to ban marches in Islington because of fears a far-right group could target Finsbury Park Mosque, a leaked e-mail has revealed.
Scotland Yard is seeking to stop the English Defence League (EDL) staging a planned protest in Walthamstow in Waltham Forest on Saturday.
Officers have asked the home secretary, Theresa May, for a temporary order prohibiting marches across Waltham Forest and three other boroughs including Islington.
Row over proposed statue to ‘pro-war Islamophobe’
Labour councillors are blocking plans to honour campaigning journalist Christopher Hitchens with a statue, with one of them branding the late writer as a “pro-war Islamophobe”.
A trail of emails leaked to the New Journal show a sharp exchange between the British Humanist Association (BHA), which wants the statue to be erected in Red Lion Square, Holborn, and politicians representing the ward.
Plans for mosque in Lincoln win backing of residents’ association
A group which opposed the building of a £500,000 mosque in Lincoln has now promised to work alongside the Islamic association.
The proposed, two-storey place of worship at the Old Boultham Dairy, could win full planning permission on November 7. If approved, the mosque could be up and running in about two years.
Boultham Residents’ Association started a petition against the plans last year. Members were concerned about the level of traffic the building would bring to the area.
A joint statement has now been issued by Jean Flannery, chairman of the residents’ association and Dr Tanweer Ahmed, trustee of the Islamic association which says they are happy to work together.
Blackburn pupils win headscarf fight
A new school headscarf is set to be introduced following pressure from pupils. Pleckgate High School, Blackburn, saw girls rebel after bringing in a uniform hijab, complaining it was ill-fitting or against their Islamic principles.
Former EDL Jewish Division leader claims Islamic centre ‘could lead to attacks’
The leader of an extreme right-wing Jewish group has been condemned for claiming that a proposed Muslim community centre would lead to attacks on Jews.
Roberta Moore, head of the UK branch of the Jewish Defence League, wrote to Camden Council complaining about the proposed conversion of a shop in Cricklewood, north London.
Ms Moore, ex-head of the English Defence League’s Jewish Division, said turning the former shop into a Muslim community centre could lead to Jews being threatened and roads becoming “constantly crowded by Muslims preaching on the streets”.
