BNP complaint over Oswestry Muslim centre plans

Phil Reddall BNPBritish National Party officials have made an official complaint after plans to transform a former Presbyterian church in a town in Shropshire into a Muslim centre were given the go-ahead.

The north Shropshire branch of the far-right party said the decision made by Shropshire Council planning officers should have been made at a full public meeting rather than in private. And they have written to Shirehall in protest over how the issue has been handled.

Phil Reddall, organiser of North Shropshire BNP, said he had made a complaint to Shropshire Council due to the decision being delegated to the planning department.

Arson attack on Thiers mosque

Thiers mosque arsonInaugurated in December 2010, the mosque at Thiers might well not be here today. The website Lamontagne.fr has reported that on Wednesday night one or more individuals attempted to set fire to the boiler room of the building.

Rags soaked in petrol were found at the scene, which leaves no doubt that the intention was to destroy the mosque, said the website.

More nonsense about Hedegaard from Douglas Murray

Douglas Murray with Lars HedegaardDouglas Murray has followed up his ludicrous blog post accusing Hope Not Hate of inciting the attempted murder of Danish Islamophobe Lars Hedegaard with a puff piece in the Spectator based on an interview with the great man.

“Lars was his usual calm, eloquent and forthright self”, an admiring Murray gushes. “If anybody thought they could silence him, they’ve got another thing coming.” (The admiration is obviously mutual – Hedegaard’s Dispatch International has just published an article entitled “Soft-spoken Douglas Murray – razor sharp under the velvet surface”.)

Jerusalem: Fan arrested for racism against Muslim footballer

Police arrested a man outside the Friday afternoon practice of the Betar Jerusalem soccer team after the man yelled racist comments at a new Muslim player from Chechnya. The incident is the latest in a series of violent events from a fanatical group of Betar supporters who are furious with the team management for signing two Muslim players from the Chechen team Terek Grozny, Dzhabrail Kadiyev and Zaur Sandayev.

On January 26, Betar fans raised an enormous banner with the words “Betar Pure Forever,” referring to the fact that the team has not been welcoming to Muslim players. Extremist fans have also attacked team security guards and thrown rocks at players’ cars. Last Friday, incidents came to a head when a group of fans torched the management offices in the team’s practice facility in Bayit Vagan, causing extensive damage to the offices and destroying team memorabilia. On Tuesday night police arrested four Betar fans who identify as part of the hardcore fan group La Familia in connection with the arson attack against the team offices.

Oklahoma Republicans launch ‘counterterrorism caucus’ to fight Islamist plot to overthrow constitution

Citing concerns about an attempt by a Muslim organization to replace the U.S. Constitution with Islamic law, several Republican Oklahoma legislators have announced the creation of a counterterrorism caucus.

Republican state Rep. John Bennett of Sallisaw spearheaded a news conference on Thursday announcing the formation of the caucus.

Although Bennett described the group as bipartisan, no Democrats attended the news conference. The one Democratic representative Bennett cited as a member, Rep. Eric Proctor of Tulsa, said he was unsure of the purpose of the caucus.

A U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served in Afghanistan and Iraq, Bennett says he’s primarily concerned with the possibility of the Muslim Brotherhood operating in Oklahoma. He also criticized the Council on American-Islamic Affairs, an advocacy group with an Oklahoma chapter.

Kentucky: plan for Muslim cemetery rejected

After residents voiced strong opposition to a proposed Islamic cemetery in a rural part of unincorporated Bullitt County Thursday night, the county’s Board of Adjustments voted 4-1 to deny the request to loud applause from the crowd of more than 110.

The Louisville Islamic Center had requested a conditional-use zoning change to buy 10 acres of land near Mount Washington and build a cemetery. The land is currently zoned agricultural.

Some residents cited traffic concerns on narrow Hubbard Lane and expressed no malice to the Islamic faith.

Others expressed concern about environmental issues associated with Islamic burial traditions, which typically involve no caskets or vaults. Some feared vandalism from those opposed to Islam.

Several told the board the board the United States was built on Christian principles and that the Islamic Center should go where it is more welcome.
