Racial hatred crimes on the increase in North East
Hidden race hate crimes involving “home-grown neo-nazis” are on the increase in the North East, according to a leading academic.
Researchers said they have discovered a “growing attitude of intolerance and violence” in the region and expressed fears over the growing scale of the problem.
The warning comes as a 29-year-old was arrested a week ago over allegations he threatened an Oslo-style bomb attack on Muslims in South Shields. Just days earlier, anti-terror police arrested two men over the posting of alleged racist postings online.
In Norway, Muslim leaders say Breivik trial should focus on gunman’s anti-Islamic ideology
Muslim leaders in Norway say they are concerned that the anti-Islamic ideology of Anders Behring Breivik, the far-right fanatic now on trial for killing 77 people, is being overshadowed by questions about his mental state.
The self-described anti-Muslim militant shocked Norway on July 22 with a bombing and shooting rampage targeting the government headquarters and the Labor Party’s annual youth camp. Since he has admitted to the attacks, the key issue for the trial is to determine whether Breivik is sane enough to be held criminally responsible.
“I’m not a psychiatrist, but what is important is what he has done. That should be the focus, not how crazy he is,” said Mehtab Afsar, head of the Islamic Council in Norway, an umbrella organization of Muslim groups in the country. “He wants to get rid of Muslims and Islam from Europe. That is his main message. So I don’t see the point of using so much energy on is he normal, is he insane?” Afsar told The Associated Press.
Rejecting Islamophobia: Dearborn conference counters Geller’s hatefest
Dearborn, home to one of the nation’s largest concentrations of Arab Americans, once again will become a focal point for debate over the practice and persecution of Islam in the west.
Pamela Geller, conservative activist and co-founder of Stop Islamization of America, is scheduled to host the “Jessica Mokdad Human Rights Conference” from the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Dearborn on Sunday at 5 p.m.
London Elects sanctions Islamophobic material
London Assembly member Murad Qureshi has written to complainabout the election address from the British National Party that appears in the booklet distributed by London Elects to inform voters about the 3 May elections for the London Mayor and Assembly.
The BNP’s appeal to voters features a quote from their phoney non-Reverend Robert West which reads: “I’m backing the British National Party because they support our traditional Christian faith. We need strong leadership to protect our national identity from the threat of Islam.”
Thousands gather in Norway to sing song Breivik hates
Tens of thousands of rose-waving Norwegians gathered in rain-drenched Oslo Thursday to deride mass murderer Anders Behring Breivik by singing a song he hates, viewing it as Marxist indoctrination.
Some 40,000 people, according to police, massed in the rain at a square near the courthouse where Breivik is on trial for his July 22 attacks that killed 77 people, to sing “Children of the Rainbow” by Norwegian folk singer Lillebjoern Nilsen.
Inside the court, the 33-year-old accused right-wing extremist sat listening without showing emotion to powerful testimony from survivors of his bloodbath on the ninth day of his trial.
Nazi-saluting pub landlord says he was just pointing at the TV … and he left the EDL because ‘unsavoury characters’ had joined it
A pub landlord pictured with his arm aloft in front of an Ulster flag says: “I was just pointing to a television screen.”
The photograph of Barry Smith has been circulated on the internet by campaigners who claim it appears to be a Nazi-style salute. But Mr Smith insists that his pose in the photograph, taken by one of his friends in a German bar as they watched a TV broadcast of a match in the 2006 World Cup, is innocent.
It was republished on the website by the campaign group Portsmouth Nazi Watch, having first been posted by Mr Smith on his Facebook page. Mr Smith, who runs The Alma Arms, in Highland Road, Eastney, says he has since deactivated his Facebook page on advice from police.
Lutfur Rahman ate my hamster
East London News replies to yet another witch-hunting article attacking Tower Hamlets mayor Lutfur Rahman and his supporters, noting: “The point of the Telegraph article is not only to have a go at Tower Hamlets but also to have a go at Ken Livingstone in the run up to the election of London Mayor on 3rd May.”
Now, who do you suppose wrote that witch-hunting article? Yes, right first time, it was Andrew Gilligan. That’s the same Andrew Gilligan who was forced to resign from the BBC after the exposure of his inaccurate reporting and was saved by Boris Johnson who gave him a job at the Spectator. Gilligan evidently feels this is a debt that still needs repaying.
Counterjihadist websites appeal to over-65s
Klassekampen writes it used Alexa to examine eight sites that allegedly inspired Anders Behring Breivik and his manifesto. It claims its investigations revealed readership groups to websites Gates of Vienna, Jihad Watch, The Brussels Journal, Islam Watch, Atlas Shrugged, Tundra Tabloid, Vladtepesblog and The Green Arrow showed a clear pattern.
When presented with the results, Andreas Malm, journalist and author of the book The Hate Against Muslims, told the paper, “The typical profile of conspiracy theorists are elderly, lonely men, who become obsessed with a particular question, and who may be attracted to anti-Islamic conspiracy theories.”
‘We don’t want EDL coming to our town’, is message from We Are Luton meeting
Speakers at a meeting last night called for people in Luton to come together and oppose the “Islamophobia” of the English Defence League, who are holding a protest rally in Luton on May 5.
The EDL have been told by Bedfordshire Police that they can hold their rally in Park Street, while coalition group “We Are Luton” are being allowed to protest in Wardown Park.
“We Are Luton” is made up of different groups, including trade unions, Unite Against Fascism (UAF), the Green Party and the Luton Council of Mosques.
