A woman arrested for breaching bail conditions shouted racist abuse at the police officer taking her back to the police station. Blackburn magistrates heard the officer, who had 10 years’ service, had never experienced such bad racist abuse which lasted the whole of the eight-minute journey to Greenbank police station. And as they drove into the police station, Jasmine Astin was shouting “EDL”.

EDL leaders’ Scandinavian tour cancelled
We have previously covered the difficulties the “counterjihad” publication Dispatch International has faced in booking meetings in Malmö and Copenhagen for English Defence League leaders Stephen Lennon and Kevin Carroll.
Earlier this week DI regretfully announced that the EDL speaking tour has now been called off: “Rarely has an arrangement met with so many problems. First we couldn’t rent a hall and now we have to cancel the meeting altogether.”
Guramit Singh on the run, sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison in absentia
Three criminals tied up a shop assistant and threatened to slash his throat in a botched robbery in Notts.
Andrew Wheelhouse, 31, David Mura, 26, and Guramit Singh Kalirai, 31, went into gardening shop Simply Hydro, in Wigwam Lane, Hucknall, at about 12.30pm on Thursday, May 2, with the intention of raiding it. They attacked a shop assistant, pinned him to the ground and threatened to slash his throat if he did not give them money.
Wilders’ MPs wear badges featuring Nazi-linked flag in parliament
Four MPs for Geert Wilders’ anti-immigration PVV wore a badge in parliament on Wednesday featuring a flag associated with neo-Nazi groups, the NRC reports.
The Prinsen flag, which has an orange section rather than red as in the current Dutch flag, was adopted by the Dutch national socialist party NSB in the 1930s. It has since become a symbol of right-wing extremism and is used by groups such as the Nederlandse Volksunie and Stormfront.
MPs Martin Bosma, Reinette Klever, Machiel de Graaf and Harm Beertema wore the badge during the debate, the NRC said. The PVV declined to respond to question on why they had worn the flag.
Right-wing thugs locked up after Liverpool city centre attack
Seven right-wing thugs who attacked a Liverpool City Centre anti-fascist meeting were jailed after admitting charges of violent disorder.
The men, who were either members of or associated with groups including the National Front, the English Defence Force or North West Infidels punched and kicked people heading for a fundraising gig at the News From Nowhere Bookshop on July 6 last year.
CCTV footage shown to Liverpool Crown Court showed the men, led by 25-year-old Liam Pinkham, running across Bold Street and attacking a smaller group walking past the Cafe Tabac bar and restaurant.
The attackers, some of whom were wearing masks, punched and kicked their victims who were pursued into the Tabac where the violence continued, sending tables and chairs flying.
Anya Horwood, prosecuting, said: “It would appear that the motivation for this violent disorder was polarised political opinions and personal enmity. The attacking group shared right-wing beliefs and the victims anti-fascist.”
Second Worcester Park mosque plan rejected – ‘climate of Islamophobia’ is blamed
A plan to open a ‘car-free’ mosque in Worcester Park was rejected after councillors dismissed the idea no-one would drive to it. Sutton Council refused planning permission for a mosque to be opened in the old Bank Chambers building in Green Lane near the junction with Green Lane at a heated meeting last night.
The scheme was rejected after councillors on the development control committee refused to accept the developers claims that no-one would drive to the mosque and said plans would exacerbate and already-existing problem with traffic in the area. It is the second time an application to convert the building, which has been abandoned for more than four years, has gone before the council.
East London Mosque evacuated after bomb threat
At approximately 12.00pm today the East London Mosque and London Muslim Centre management was contacted by police, alerting us to a possible bomb threat.
The entire complex was evacuated safely, whilst mosque staff assisted police in checking for any suspicious packages.
The buildings were declared safe an hour later, just before the midday prayers. Dilowar Khan, our Executive Director, later informed worshippers to report any suspicious behaviour or packages to staff.
We remain vigilant in the face of such threats.
Wilders lashes out after Nazi supporter claims
Geert Wilders, leader of the anti-immigration PVV, and Alexander Pechtold of the Liberal democratic party D66 have clashed in parliament over Nazi salutes spotted at last weekend’s PVV rally.
During the first of the two-day debate on the budget, Pechtold asked Wilders to distance himself from the far right.
During Saturday’s PVV demonstration in The Hague, several people were seen to make Nazi salutes and were carrying a flag from the Dutch national socialist party NSB. There were also people present with convictions for anti-semitism.
“I am concerned,” Pechtold said, before asking Wilders to comment. Wilders refused to do so, and went on to call Pechtold a “sad, miserable, hypocritical little man”.
Vlaams Belang stunt backfires
Last year the Flemish far-right party Vlaams Belang launched a new front organisation, Women Against Islamisation, with a poster featuring party leader Filip Dewinter’s teenage daughter wearing a bikini and a veil.
Evidently pleased with the publicity generated by this stunt, last week VB followed it up with a new poster featuring a photograph of Anke Van dermeersch, the former Miss Belgium who is leader of the VB group in the Belgian senate, hitching her skirt up her legs. Various hem-lengths are marked, with “stoning” at the top and “sharia-compliant” at floor level. The photo is accompanied by the same slogan that appeared on last year’s poster – “Freedom or Islam?”
Scottish Defence League planning return to Dundee

Controversial far-right group the Scottish Defence League are planning another protest in the centre of Dundee. They aim to hold a rally outside the Overgate Centre a week on Saturday in defiance of a council warning that they do not have permission for a gathering.
Police are drawing up plans to deal with any unrest from the extreme political organisation’s arrival in the city on October 5. The potential for disorder has been heightened by plans by an anti-fascist alliance to hold a demonstration against the SDL’s visit on the day.
