Australian police ‘targeted’ Muslim convert over library books

A Melbourne university student says the Australian Federal Police (AFP) has questioned him because he borrowed library books about terrorism and suicide bombings. The Muslim convert, known as Abraham, says he was targeted by investigators while borrowing the books for PhD research at Monash University into the role of Islam in martyrdom.

Abraham says the AFP drew an unfair link between his Muslim name and his topic of study. “Obviously, they’ve had access to my library records,” he said. “I don’t know if the phone has been bugged. I don’t know if they are watching my movements. They are drawing a linkage between a person with a non-English speaking name and saying ‘okay, well this is suspicious activity’.”

Abraham says there are dozens of students studying similar subjects but he is the only one who has been interviewed, despite espousing a moderate approach to Islam.

US Muslims call comments by radio show host ‘hate-filled’

A local radio talk show host touched off complaints from an Islamic civil rights organization yesterday after repeatedly describing Islam on the air as “a terrorist organization” that is “at war with America.”

The organization, the Washington-based Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), asked the station to take disciplinary action against Michael Graham, who hosts WMAL-AM’s late-morning call-in program. A station executive, Randall Bloomquist, said yesterday that Graham’s comments were “amped up” but justified within the context of the program. He said the station, which is owned by the Walt Disney Co., had no plans to reprimand Graham.

The show host touched off the flap during a discussion of the Muslim community’s response to recent acts of terrorism. Graham suggested the fault lies with Muslims generally because religious leaders and followers haven’t done enough to condemn and root out extreme elements. “The problem is not extremism,” Graham said, according to both CAIR and the station. “The problem is Islam.” He also said, “We are at war with a terrorist organization named Islam.”

We need mutual trust and knowledge and to return to the Koran. Your brother is not only Muslim, but also non-Muslim’.”

The Sun wakes up

The Sun“Britain’s Muslim leaders are waking up to the threat in our midst. Their plea yesterday for parents to tell police if they fear their sons could be suicide bombers is a vital blow against terrorism. Inayat Bunglawala, spokesman for the Muslim Council, and Dr Azzam Tamimi of the Muslim Association, made it clear that they spoke with the authority of the Koran. Their move is wholeheartedly backed by The Sun – and must win support from right-thinking people.”

What a load of ignorant, condescending rubbish. Given that the MCB and MAB have never ceased to condemn terrorist attacks and to call on British Muslims to give information to the police, it is clear that the only people who are “waking up” are the Sun‘s editorial writers.

In another article in the same issue, referring to the shooting of an innocent man by police, the Sun reports approvingly that “an Islamic scholar accused of justifying suicide attacks said people should NOT blame police for the tragedy”. And who might this Islamic scholar be? Well, actually, it’s Tariq Ramadan – the man the Sun demanded should be banned from Britain. And who made the false accusation against Professor Ramadan that he justified suicide bombing? Yeah, that was the Sun as well. See here.

Hispanic, Islamic groups want Tancredo out

Hispanic and Muslim groups called on US Republican Tom Tancredo to resign, saying he has embarrassed Colorado by suggesting that Americans bomb Islamic holy sites if terrorists launch a nuclear attack on the United States.

They also criticised the Republican congressman’s staunch advocacy of tougher immigration controls. “Enough is enough. We’re here to say ‘Stop,”‘ Hispanic activist Manolo Gonzalez-Estay told a crowd of about 200 people at the state Capitol.

Abdur-Rahim Ali, imam of the Northeast Denver Islamic Center, said Tancredo’s statement that “you could take out” Islamic holy sites in a retaliatory attack was unacceptable. “What would happen if a prominent Muslim made that statement about Catholic holy places like the Vatican?” asked Ali.

Tancredo’s spokesman, Will Adams, said the four-term congressman would not comment on the rally, but has no intention of apologising or resigning. “They are a lot more upset about what he stands for, our nation’s security and border policy, than anything else,” Adams said.

Why did Britain produce its “own” suicide bombers, Anthony Browne asks. “It is true that Britain, more cursed with political correctness than most, has shown a joyfully optimistic tolerance of Islamic extremists. The BBC, the Guardian and the Metropolitan Police promote groups like the Muslim Association of Britain, even though it openly supports terrorism (just not in Britain). No, the real answer to why Britain spawned people fuelled with maniacal hate for their country is that Britain hates itself. In hating Britain, these British suicide bombers were as British as a police warning for flying the union flag.”

Their children are sheltered from the massive influx of Muslims into some schools, and their own neighborhoods and social services are unaffected by the pressures created by an unassimilated immigrant population.

“And continued belief in multiculturalism by the elites suits many Muslims just fine. Unlike immigrants who come to America in pursuit of the American dream, many Muslims come to Britain and other European countries determined not to assimilate into cultures they despise. They insist that neither British food is served, nor traditional British tolerance practiced, in the schools their children attend, demands the authorities find reasonable….

Right-wing evangelist offers ‘friendly advice to peaceful Muslims’

“If the ‘peaceful’ majority of Muslims do not begin to actively and vigorously expose the radicals in their communities, then we, the people of the United States and United Kingdom, will have to do it for them. We are tired of the ‘peaceful’ Muslims sitting by and doing nothing to expose the disciples preaching hate and jihad in their mosques. There is almost a silent admiration of these fanatics on the part of some. Many allow their financial contributions to be used by the jihad preachers….

“Our intelligence forces all warn that it is only a matter of time before Islamic terrorist will attack our cities with weapons of mass destruction. This includes everything from nuclear to biological bombs. When one of these attacks happens, a flood of rage will burst forth, and nothing or anyone will be able to stop it. The law of the jungle will take over. Muslim communities who did nothing to stop the radicals among them will be the first targets.”
