“Westerners opposed to the application of the Islamic law (the Shari’a) watch with dismay as it goes from strength to strength in their countries – harems increasingly accepted, a church leader endorsing Islamic law, a judge referring to the Koran, clandestine Muslim courts meting out justice. What can be done to stop the progress of this medieval legal system so deeply at odds with modern life, one that oppresses women and turns non-Muslims into second-class citizens?”

Hate site comments suggest violence against Missouri mosque

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) today asked the St. Louis, Mo., office of the FBI to investigate apparent threats against a local mosque posted on an anti-Muslim Internet hate site.

Threatening comments on the Little Green Footballs hate site about a new minaret being built near that mosque included:

1. “I suppose dynamite would be considered an extreme response.”
2. “The tower would make a nice target for lots of things…Perhaps one could start by bombing the thing with pig s**t from a light plane.”
3. “Anyone got some RPGs to coat in pig fat?”
4. “Would be a shame if it were to be vandalized or destroyed. Just a shame I tell you….wink wink STL youth.”

“These types of violent comments should not be taken lightly and should be investigated by state and federal law enforcement authorities,” said CAIR Civil Rights Manager Khadija Athman.

The apparent threats come following a recent arson attack on a Tennessee mosque allegedly by three members of the “Christian Identity” movement and a fire-bomb attack on a Minnesota Muslim business.

Group set up to fight mosque bid

No mosque here 4Campaigners have set up a crisis group to plan a fresh attack on proposals to build an £18 million mosque in Dudley.

Malcolm Davis, former councillor for St James’ ward, says his phone has been ringing off the hook with residents complaining about the planning inspector’s decision to overturn the council’s rejection of the scheme. The authority had thrown out the plans to create a mosque and community centre on derelict land in Hall Street. The matter will now go to a public inquiry in June.

Mr Davis said public feeling against the mosque was just as strong as when the proposals originally emerged. Some 70 petitions containing more than 22,000 signatures were handed to the council from people protesting against the plans. “We have set up a working party and I will be asking everybody who wants to object to the mosque plan to turn up that night for the hearing, even if it brings the town to a complete standstill.”

Mr Davis has blasted the inspectorate’s decision to refer the plan to a public inquiry as “a coward’s way out”. He said: “I’m adamant the people of Dudley don’t want that thing there…. It will destroy the concept of a lovely medieval market town.”

Sharia law at the Treasury and a drift to Islam

“It is strangely shocking to find that Her Majesty’s Treasury, that very matter-of-fact department, should be issuing bonds that comply with the ancient rules of sharia law. It is as if your bank manager were suddenly to break off from warning you about your overdraft, fetch out a prayer mat and start offering devotions in the direction of Mecca….

“… there is still something slightly unsettling about the news. Is it coincidental that ours is the first major Western country to offer this facility? Official Britain has a startling enthusiasm for adjusting itself to make Muslims comfortable. The Home Secretary has weirdly described terrorist activity as ‘Anti-Islamic’. The Foreign Office was recently revealed by a whistleblower to be giving undue status to militant strands of Islam.

“… it coincides with an increasing tendency to reduce the privileges of the Christian religion in Britain. Christian worship in State schools has been deliberately allowed to fade into nonexistence. Recent legislation on adoption, stem-cell research and the employment rights of homosexuals has directly challenged Christian practice and belief.

“Yet multicultural liberals, many of whom profess themselves Godless and despise Christianity, are strangely ready to suck up to Islam, whose views on such topics are far fiercer than those of the most militant Christian moralist.

“It sometimes seems as if we are slowly drifting, without really thinking about it, or meaning to, towards the Islamic world. It is time we did think about it, or who knows what may rush in to fill the religious vacuum left at the heart of our State by the slow death of the Church of England?”

“Amid all the multiculturalism-bashing and Muslim-baiting that has become part of our daily media diet, yesterday’s report on Britain’s security risks stood out – a glaring example of just how wrongheaded Britain’s political thinking has become.

“The Royal United Services Institute report, drawn up by a panel dominated by military historians and former top civil servants and forces chiefs, said Britain has become a ‘soft touch’ in combating the threat of terrorism, owing to ‘our loss of cultural self-confidence’. It went on: ‘In misplaced deference to “multiculturalism”, [the majority has] failed to lay down the line to immigrant communities.’

“At best such language and attitudes are a throwback to the intolerant days of the 70s and 80s. At worst, they have the colonial air of white masters barking orders at the ‘uncivilised’. The phrase ‘immigrant communities’ itself has come to be the modern-day euphemism for black or brown people – never used for the Australians of Earls Court, for instance. Worse, it traps all racial minorities as permanent outsiders, the not quite British, regardless of how many generations have been born here.”

Britain ‘a soft touch for home grown terrorists’

Soft Touch UKBritain has become a “soft touch” for home grown terrorists because ministers have failed to tackle immigrant communities that refuse to integrate, warns a report released today.

The Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), a body of the country’s leading military and diplomatic figures, says the loss of British values and national identity caused by “flabby and bogus” Government thinking has made the country vulnerable to attack from Islamic extremists.

“The UK presents itself as a target, as a fragmenting, post-Christian society,” the report says, and is “increasingly divided” on its history, national aims, values and political identity. “That fragmentation is worsened by the firm self-image of those elements within it who refuse to integrate.”

The report places most of the blame for this on a “lack of leadership from the majority, which, in misplaced deference to ‘multiculturalism’, failed to lay down the line to immigrant communities, thus undercutting those within them trying to fight extremism. The country’s lack of self-confidence is in stark contrast to the implacability of its Islamist terrorist enemy, within and without. We look like a soft touch. We are indeed a soft touch, from within and without.”

Top rabbi backs Williams on sharia

The head of one of Britain’s rabbinic courts this week rallied to the side of the embattled Archbishop of Canterbury over his controversial call to give greater recognition to Islamic law within Britain’s legal system. Dayan Yisroel Lichtenstein, head of the Federation Beth Din, writing in today’s JC, said that Rowan Williams had been “widely pilloried for proposing sensible ideas”, which would benefit the Jewish community if adopted.

Melanie Phillips begs to differ. In the same issue of the JC, she writes: “Jews are being used misleadingly to help promote a development which would ultimately hurt them very badly. The demand for sharia law is part of the pincer movement to Islamise Britain through both terrorism and cultural takeover.”

On the other hand Geoffrey Alderman, whose views Islamophobia Watch has not always endorsed, adopts a much more reasoned position.

Mad clergyman bashes Bish

Hat tip, as they say, to the fascists of the British National Party who have drawn our attention to a contribution from the Rev Alan Clifford to the Torygraph’s online debate over the question “Should the Archbishop of Canterbury resign?“:

Sir, May a case not be made that the Archbishop of Canterbury has betrayed his ordination and consecration vows (see below)? He is not called to be a ‘PC’ mouthpiece in a posture of appeasement towards Muslims, especially when the creeping Islamification of the UK is already making considerable progress. Dr Williams is not called to ‘explore’ the possible accommodation of aspects of shari’ah in a UK legal context but to declare the Word of God. According to his ‘penitential apology’ at the Church of England Synod, he completely misreads his duty to honour the Lordship of Christ in these (and other) areas. Christ said “Beware of false prophets” (Matt. 7:15), and who was more false than the Prophet Muhammad? The double standing ovation the Archbishop received was sickening to hear. Such is the apostasy of those who clapped.

I leave readers to judge the above remarks in the light of promises Dr Williams made at his consecration: ARE you ready, with all faithful diligence, to banish and drive away all erroneous and strange doctrine contrary to God’s Word; and both privately and openly to call upon and encourage others to the same? Answer: I am ready, the Lord being my helper.
