Most people believe UKIP contains racists, poll finds

The UK Independence party has a three-point lead for this month’s European election – but most people think the party contains racists, according to an opinion poll.

Nigel Farage’s party is on 29%, ahead of Labour on 26%, the Conservatives on 23% and Liberal Democrats on 10%. But 27% of those surveyed thought Ukip was a party with “racist views” and “many racist members”, while 35% thought that, while the party was not racist, it did “seem to attract some candidates or supporters with racist, extreme or odd views”. Some 26% said Ukip was not racist and their “more controversial candidates are just saying the things ordinary people actually think”.

The poll came as Ukip suspended another would-be councillor for expressing extreme views on Twitter. Harry Perry posted comments on Twitter describing the prime minister, David Cameron, as a “gay-loving nutcase”, Muslims as “devil’s kids” and homosexuality as “an abomination before God”.

Farage accepted there were “some idiots” in the party as he condemned Perry’s comments as “entirely inconsistent” with remaining in Ukip.

‘Non-racist’ footballer who was jailed for anti-Muslim tweets arrested over racist Facebook comments

Shaun Tuck (2)A footballer jailed for saying mosques should be “gassed out or bombed” following the murder of Lee Rigby has been arrested for a new ‘racist’ outburst.

Shaun Tuck, 27, who plays for Warrington Town FC, was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison after he admitted using Facebook to call for mosques in the UK to be “gassed out or bombed” after the Woolwich attack last year. The former Marine FC striker’s drink-fuelled online tirade also referred to beheading Muslim children and called for a riot in response to the tragedy.

Now Merseyside Police has confirmed Tuck, of Mollington Avenue, Norris Green , has been arrested again, this time over comments posted on his Facebook account at the end of March.

An initial post made on the Facebook account, which was later deleted, described how Tuck had been attacked by an “orang-utan” in a pub who punched him in the face. The comment, seen by the Liverpool Echo, read: “If you know who you are or know who it was who done that tonight then inbox me an I will come an see u first thing tomorrow an watch ye ****house ur nan is getting set on fire!”

Subsequent responses from the user account saw the man referred to as a “monkey” and said “its a good job he bailed an I couldn’t get him or I’d be on a murder charge!” Comments were also posted saying “I hope his families banana boat sinks” and “if I see him or I find out who he is then an if he has got kids there getting acid in there face”.

Police confirmed Tuck was arrested for an offence of Racially Aggravated Section 4 Public Order last month. He was interviewed by officers and released on bail until next week, pending further enquiries.

Brentwood Conservative candidate David Bishop resigns over ‘inappropriate’ tweets

David BishopA Conservative candidate in the upcoming Brentwood Borough Council elections has resigned over anti-Islamic and homophobic Tweets.

David Bishop posted “It’s good to be anti-Islam” two days before he was cemented as the party’s candidate for the Brentwood South ward in the Brentwood Borough Council elections later this month.

The tweet included a link to controversial ‘comedian’ Pat Condell who has attracted criticism in the past for the inflammatory nature of his online rants.

In the video a clearly animated Mr Condell accuses Islam of the sexualisation of young girls, “aggressive separatism, “phoney grievance mongering” and a “psychopathic level of misogyny”.

Two days after being named the Tory’s candidate the Zero Radio DJ reposted a Tweet made from another account which cites the arrest of four Muslim men over the rape of a 14-year-old girl before adding “’#Islam ‘the religion of peace’ & rape”.

Prague: Hundreds of Muslims protest police mosque raid

Prague protest May 2014With prayer mats spread on the ground behind the Ministry of the Interior, hundreds of kneeling Muslims gathered today to protest last Friday’s police mosque raid.

About 300 men and several dozen women prayed, listened to speeches and made religious chants in a show of defiance against what a community leader described as an “entirely inappropriate” raid by officials.

There was a small anti-Muslim counter-protest in the area behind the Prague 7 ministry where the prayer gathering – Friday is the most important day of worship for Muslims – was held.

The action by the Czech Republic’s Muslim community comes after a raid by police on Friday last week of a mosque and of the headquarters of the Islamic Foundation. Officers detained a 55-year-old Czech citizen accused of organizing the translation of a book that, according to police, spreads racism, anti-Semitism and xenophobia. Dozens of people were held at the mosque when the raid took place during Friday prayers.

Farage dissociates himself from Harry Perry, but why no action against Magnus Nielsen?

Magnus Nielsen with anti-sharia placardIt would appear that the UK Independence Party may be about to suspend Harry Perry, the party’s candidate for Stockport Council whose offensive tweets and support for the English Defence League were exposed last week.

The Independent reports that UKIP leader Nigel Farage was asked about Perry and replied: “I’ve never heard of the bloke until last night. I’ve no idea who he is. I think he comes from the north west of England. Clearly his attitude and views are entirely inconsistent with being a member of UKIP. Simple.”

But what about Magnus Nielsen, the UKIP candidate for Camden Council whose offensive Facebook comments have received widespread coverage in the media? Farage can’t claim he’s never heard of Nielsen, who has a long history as a party activist. He stood for UKIP in the Barnet & Camden constituency in the London Assembly elections of 2000, 2004 and 2008. He was also the party’s parliamentary candidate for Hampstead & Highgate in the 2005 general election and for Hampstead & Kilburn in 2010.

New Statesman warns of threat from Islam

New Statesman 2 May 2014Following the publication of his 2005 book The Losing Battle With Islam, David Selbourne wrote a briefing paper for John Kerry. In the current issue of the New Statesman he rehashes its arguments.

Summarising the advice he gave to Kerry, Selbourne sets out a list of the West’s failures in responding to Islamic aggression:

“Among them are the failure to recognise the ambition of radical Islam; the failure to condemn the silence of most Muslims at the crimes committed in their names; the failure to respond adequately to the persecution of Christians in many Muslim lands; the failure to grasp the nature of the non-military skills that are being deployed against the non-Muslim world – skills of manoeuvre, skills in deceiving the gullible, skills in making temporary truces in order to gain time (as in Iran); and, perhaps above all, the failure to realise the scale and speed of Islam’s advance.”

Scottish Defence League members guilty of throwing bacon into mosque

Chelsea Lambie on IslamA teenage woman and a man have been found guilty of throwing bacon into Central Mosque and wrapping it round the door handles.

Chelsea Lambie, 18, from Paisley, and 38-year-old Douglas Cruikshank from Galashiels carried out the early morning attack in January last year.

Cruikshank originally denied the charge, but changed his plea after the Crown dropped its claim that the offence was racially aggravated.
