Three charged with Haywards Heath mosque arson

Three 19-year-old men have been charged with arson following a fire at a newly-renovated mosque in West Sussex. The fire at the mosque in Wivelsfield Road, Haywards Heath, was started in the early hours of Sunday. It opened in November after being renovated at a cost of hundreds of thousands of pounds.

The men, who were charged with arson, theft and causing fear of unlawful violence, appeared before magistrates in Crawley. Josh Morris, 19, of Sussex Road, Haywards Heath, James Smith, 19, of St Andrew’s Road, Burgess Hill, and James Everley, 19, of Broadwood Rise, Crawley, were remanded in custody to appear before Mid-Sussex magistrates via video-link on 17 February. A 17-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of arson, theft and causing fear of unlawful violence was bailed until 29 March pending further inquiries.
