EDL explains why they will be protesting in Dewsbury

Today the English Defence League has posted a number of comments and links on its Facebook page to justify the demonstration in Dewsbury tomorrow and to educate its members about the threat posed by Islam. They’re worth checking out if you require confirmation that the EDL is nothing more than a mob of stupid, ignorant, violent bigots.

Women asked to remove headscarves at some French airports

Some French airports have begun to ask headscarf-wearing women to take off their scarves for security reasons, which has spurred criticism from Muslims in the country, who find the practice a discriminatory one.

The Collective Against Islamophobia in France (CCIF) has announced that Nantes Atlantique Airport has made it obligatory for headscarf-wearing women to take off their scarves and place them in the X-ray machine along with their other belongings.

The practice was put into effect two weeks ago by the SGA, the company responsible for Nantes Atlantique Airport’s security. Women affected by the new rules requested that they be allowed to take off their headscarves in a special room staffed only by women, but the request was denied. The women were told that they must place their headscarves on the conveyor going through the X-ray machine if they wanted to avoid missing their plane.

Right-wing Christian bigots still trying to block Newham ‘mega-mosque’

MegaMosqueNoThanks leafletIslamic leaders hoping to push through plans to build a permanent ‘mega-mosque’ in West Ham have denied claims they could be thrown off the site.

Tablighi Jama’at already occupies an area of Canning Road and has proposed erecting a 9,500 capacity religious building with 40m high minarets, a library, and a visitors centre. But it has emerged that the group signed a deed of unilateral undertaking with Newham Council in February.

A document released last week appears to state that the group agreed to submit a valid planning application within 12 months or face removal from the site. But a spokesman insisted a basic application has been lodged with the council and was going through the “validation process”. “I’m surprised to hear this,” she said. “Our basic application was submitted by the end of the February. As you can imagine, it was an enormous application.”

Bee stings killed as many in UK as terrorists, says watchdog

Bee stings kill as many people in Britain as terrorist attacks do, according to a report by a Government watchdog who claims the risk from extremists has fallen “markedly” in recent years.

David Anderson said that no one has even been injured by an Islamist in this country for more than two years, while the number of convictions has dropped to a “handful”.

As a result he suggested that ministers could relax some anti-terror laws without endangering public safety, such as by allowing terror suspects to apply for bail or making it harder to ban certain groups.

Case against Warsi’s Pakistan trip collapses – but Cameron may still remove her as Tory party chairman

The vicious campaign against Tory Party co-chairman Sayeeda Warsi, led by the Sunday Telegraph and backed by the Labour Party (see herehere and here), has suffered a setback.

The BBC reports that Warsi has been cleared of any serious breach of the ministerial code over an official trip to Pakistan. The prime minister’s adviser Sir Alex Allan found she had committed only a “minor” breach for failing to declare she had been accompanied on the trip by her business partner Abid Hussain, with whom she had set up a restaurant supply company called Rupert’s Recipes.

Ex-BNP councillor’s anti-Muslim leaflet was breach of conduct code

A Leicestershire councillor undermined good race relations by producing a leaflet which criticised Muslims, a watchdog has found.

Councillor Graham Partner – who quit the BNP to sit as an independent – has been censured “in the strongest possible terms” for sending out the New Year message to more than 5,000 voters in his Coalville division.

Harry’s Place inspires racist thugs to threaten Muslim conference

Harry's Place Month of Mercy conference cancelled

Over at Harry’s Place Hasan Afzal of British Muslims for Israel is crowing over the success of their campaign to secure the cancellation of next month’s “Month of Mercy” conference at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London organised by the Al Muntada Trust.

As we have previously noted, the “call to action” issued by Harry’s Place received an enthusiastic response from the racist thugs of the English Defence League and the associated hooligan group Casuals United.

Unsurprisingly, both the EDL and Casuals United share HP’s glee over the cancellation.

Sarkozy claims Tariq Ramadan is campaigning for Hollande

Sarkozy candidacySarkozy told a French TV station this week that Tariq Ramadan, a controversial Muslim intellectual and Swiss national, supported Hollande. “This is a man who solicits votes for Hollande,” Sarkozy told the TF1 TV station, before adding, “And I have never heard Hollande say it bothers him”.

Not so, replied Hollande. “That is completely false,” said the Socialist frontrunner in an interview with the France Info radio station. “Tariq Ramadan, who does not even vote in France, has never mentioned my name.”

In a phone interview with FRANCE 24 Thursday, Ramadan denounced Sarkozy’s latest allegation, calling it “a mean and unacceptable lie”.
